I just finished reading Daredevil Visionaries: Frank Miller Vol 2, and I had a question about issue #181 (the "classic" fight between Bullseye and Elektra). If you've never read the issue, please don't read any further (instead, go buy the TPB and enjoy).

They have a character bio page ( http://www.marvel.com/comics/characters/characters.html ) that lists the same information.

I found this because I clicked around after replying to you and thought it would be fun to see what some of my favorite X-Men had been up to.

Regarding the DAREDEVIL VISIONARIES VOL. 1,2,3 by Frank Miller:

1) What issues does each TPB reprint?
2) How many pages does each book contain?
3) What is the paper quality?
4) Do they overlap other TPB stories such as BORN AGAIN & MARKED FOR DEATH (also Miller stories)?

Visonnaries reprints the original Miller run on the series.

I believe the following is correct but may be off on the page numbers:

Vol 1 reprints issues 159 thru 167 & is 256 pages.
Vol 2 reprints issues 168 thru 182 & is 336 pages.
Vol 3 reprints issues 183 thru 191 + What #'s 28 & 35 & the b&w Elektra story from Bizzare Adventures 28 & is 272 pages.

The paper quality is very good.

Marked For Death Reprints issues 159-161, 163 & 164.

Born Again is issues 227-233 & is drawn by Mazzuchelli & thus is not in these Visionnaries comps.

If you have Gang War that is issues 169-172 & 180.

could you give me the correct order for reading the tpbs, im gonna read dd eventually and want to read it in the correct order

I'm assuming you mean tpb's beyond the Visionnaries described above so:

Marked For Death 159-161, 163 & 164
Gang War 169-172, 180
Born Again 227-233
Fall of the Kingpin 297-300
Fall From Grace 319-325

If you have any other tpb's that I've not listed let me know and I may be able to tell you where they fit chronologically. I think the above covers all the regular series reprints. The other tpb's should all be compilation of various mini-series.

Why not just get Frank Miller: Visionaries Vols 1-3 and Born Again?

Personally, I didn't think much of Fall of the Kingpin or Fall From Grace..

Also, one issue in one of the Vols, I believe Vol 1, is missing, as FM didn't do it and it was basically an origin story.

One thing I do not like about the visionaries is the shoddy reproduction of the lettering, particularly in Vol 2-3. It's obviously "bitmapped" and been scanned, the dot quality is really high. Maybe that's just me, though. I just think you shouldn't be able to see "dot quality" on the artwork in the book.

I'm the same way - I'm reading the "new" MK Daredevil, but I only rarely picked up an issue of the original series. I got turned onto the Miller Daredevil stuff when the Visionaries collections were released, having been a huge fan of Miller's Sin City and Batman projects.

Born Again is one of the best trade paperbacks you can pick up. Batman Year 1 is even better IMO.

I liked the artwork in Fall From Grace. That's where Scott McDaniel really defined his style.

I prefered the Fall of the Kingpin story and the art by Lee Weeks.

born again is also really cheap now. i picked it up from amazon for less then $10.

So after seein DD (a great movie; it was like a moving comic book) I have a craving to scour up some classic daredevil comics. I'm on a kinda limited budget (I would like to stay under 50 bucks). What are the out and out greatest DD issues/TPB's whatevers that I should go get?

Get Daredevil Visionaries: Frank Miller volume 1-3. Nothing else even comes close. These books collect Miller's entire run, (including the Elektra Saga, which the movie is loosely based on) and the stories he told pretty much define who the character is today. DD was just a cheap Spider-Man knock-off before Miller came along. You should be able to get all three TPBs for around $50. Check Ebay.

Daredevil: Born Again, also by Miller, is generally considered to be the best DD story ever written, but the TPB is out-of-print and impossible to find. It's worth tracking down a copy, though. Great stuff. Born Again is what got me hooked on DD when I was a kid.

Daredevil: The Man without Fear, which is also by Frank Miller, is a four issue mini-series that basically retells the origins of DD. Absolutely great read! The Kevin Smith, David Mack, and Brian Michael Bendis ongoing, runs on DD are all great!

While I have all the comics aforementioned, the best of the bunch are FM: Visionaries Vols 2 & 3 and Born Again. I liked FM:V Vol 1, but it wasn't as good as 2 & 3.

Man Without Fear is actually 5 issues, and it gets my nod for the best introduction to Daredevil. It's a really excellent mini-series... if you check your local comic shops, the individual issues may be pretty easy to track down. There was a collected edition released as well.

Miller did some truly excellent work on a book called 300.

He also created his own series from Dark Horse called Sin City, most of which is available in trades. It's pretty gritty stuff, but it's great as well.

Don't forget Miller's Ronin. A Japanese Samurai gets transported to the far future. Many people believe that this is one of the biggest influences of the cartoon Samurai Jack.

Miller's "Hard Boiled" is great. So are "Give Me Liberty" and "Martha Washington Saves the World".

And, of course, one of my all-time favorites: "Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot".
